With this piece I found tuning up to myself to be quite easy. I did struggle a bit with a few note sections, and with staying in tune with myself for some bits.I found myself missing the fi, and singing fa instead. I struggled quite a bit with the Haleluia section most and found myself falling out of time with myself from time to time. Overall, I found recording this to be fun, as the simple harmonies added, in a way, a level of complexity. Additionally, the piece held challenges that I struggled with vocally.
With this piece, I found keeping the pedal La in tune to be hard, as I would go flat, or sharp, or change vowel sounds altogether. With this piece, I had fun recording it, and faced few struggles in terms of leaps. When first singing through it I struggled with the la'-mi leap, but approached it slowly, through stepwise motion, and then went from there.
With this canon, I initially struggled with pitch confidence, especially within the bars containing leaps from la-fa, and la-re,. My first time through this piece I was not in time, I was singing wrong pitches, and not aiming for the leaps. On the Monday, I worked with Gaby through this canon where I identified the problems I was having with this piece, and we worked through them. One of the major things we focused on was securing the la-fa leap, so Gaby had me sing la-do-mi a few times, and then once she felt that was secure, she asked for la-do-mi-fa, and sang through that a few times. Then she asked for la-fa. A similar process was completed for the la-re, leap.
With Canon 38, I struggled most with keeping myself in time, especially when recording the other entrances. I found that keeping myself in the same key was also difficult as I would often leap too much, or not enough and change keys mid-recording. To help with this, I tried to keep the 'la' in my head when moving to other parts.
I found this piece to be fun to record, and found it easier as I had taken practicing it SLOWER. I worked with the solfege and practiced the leaps and secured the key as best I could. I was able to stay with myself through recording the canon parts as I was conducting myself to keep myself in time. With this piece I found securing the high 'la'/'do' to be difficult, and I would often fall to the 'si'/'ti' instead. To work through this I practiced smaller leaps, eventually building to a 'la-mi-la'/'do-sol-do' and then a la-la'/do-do' leap.
Recording this was fun, especially with the canon added in. I found finding the pitches to be easier with this song than with others because I had secured the notes in practice more than I had in previous practice sessions, with different pieces. With both the minor and the major pieces I found singing the canon parts to be easier as I conducted myself through the piece as I went, and was able to keep myself in time easier.
With recording the Moor Solfège project, I struggled to keep myself in time, as well as with keeping in the same key when recording the first voicing, and found myself switching keys when repeating myself for the fourth time. I also found myself switching tempos, mis-pitching single notes, or singing the wrong thing entirely, in practice. With this project, I did find recording the other voices to be quite easy, as I had a reference point to refer to and a pitch given to me before I came in with voices two, three and four.
With both sections of this assignment, I found matching my pitch to be quite easy after having recorded the first entrance. When recording the second entrance I was able to pitch-match with myself and keep in the correct key, and keep a steady rhythm. If I were to re-do this assignment, I would like to work on projecting my voice, and letting the phrases flow more than they do in this video.
Looking back at the recording, I struggled with quite a few things: keeping the pitch, staying in the correct key, and projecting my voice through the different ranges. I found I struggled with keeping the pitch and staying in the right key as I tend to forget the pitch I start on as I progress through the patterns. For instance, when I leap up instead of step up, I forget the original 'do' and try to find it, failing. Vocally, I did not project, as I was uncomfortable with my higher range, so I tried to cover that by singing quieter, resulting in more mis-pitching.
The second time singing through this assignment, I paid far more attention to pitch, and worked harder to remember the pitch I started on. This time, I worked on projecting my voice by using more air to help the pitches ring through, which in turn helped carry me through phrases easier. If given the opportunity to redo this assignment, I would like to spend more time working on the pitches, securing them, and taking more time to each pattern, as I rushed through portions of the assignment as time fell short.
